How We Work

The coalition is a loose alliance of non-partisan, non-political, and non-violent civil society organisations focusing on the Sahel. It is open to all Sahelian organisations and regional and international NGOs who work in the Sahel and are committed to working non-violently, collectively and constructively with civil society organisations, governments, and multilateral institutions to advance the priorities in the People’s Pillars.

The coalition uses an “opt-in” model of participation. This means that coalition partners can participate in whichever actions that align with their mandate, capabilities, and interests; or they can decide not to take part in any activity that doesn’t fit with what they do. This model keeps the coalition as flexible as possible, with an ability to respond to a variety of events in a way that is best suited to make an impact.

A small, committed group of organisations provide the necessary coordination to keep all coalition members informed and open to each other, and ready to respond to political windows of opportunity to advocate for inclusion of the four People’s Pillars in interventions by Sahelian and international governments.
